Be sweet to someone :)
Posted On 02/13/2009 06:24:35

Valentines day is a holiday that honors and celebrates love.. with so much stress and drama in our lives, and in the world, I believe even if you don't believe in St. Valentine, you deserve to have a day where you are told and /or shown love!!  Even if you are single, go just like make someones day today.. stop by a nursing home and give some sweet old grandma a pretty flower (men or women can do this) remember that person who u see like all the time in your walk in life... that hardworking waitress who no matter what kind of terrible day shes had she has a smile for you...  or a little box of candies to your favorite bank teller who knows u so well she has your accnt pulled up b 4 u get to her counter... , or the old lonely man who u see out and about whom God only knows when is the last time someone said anything sweet or kind to him.. along those lines.. Lets have ONE day that we all do something sweet 4 someone :) Spread love and kindness , we all need it and we all DESERVE it. :)

Funniest tv moment lately

I just cant get tired of watching it yet !

In Africa, it was easy.
Posted On 09/25/2008 18:46:56

This came across the Doulas of NE Florida network earlier, and with permission of its author, Id like to share it...

A friend of mine works with a refugee family from Sudan and she(the

Sudan mother) recently gave birth for the first time in America,

however this was her 5th birth. They are a very poor family and have

Medicaid so the only option made known to her was to birth at

Shands. Her births in Africa were all homebirths and they were

surround by loving supportive women...not a single complication.

None of you will be surprised to find that her hospital birth was

horrific. Her husband, who lost a leg due to the violence inflicted

upon him in a prisoner camp in Sudan had no transportation to the

hospital, she was taken via ambulance and gave birth alone, no one to

translate or advocate for her. They forced her to birth laying flat

on her back. She later told my friend, "why did they make me lay on

my back? No one can give birth that way." She was not allowed to

have anything to eat during AND after labor (the nurse said it was

due to the medication that they gave her) Her sister, brought her a

milk beverage that is customary for all women to drink after giving

birth and the staff would not allow it. (she SO needed a doula!) I

could go on and on but the staff were very rude and cold. Mom is

fine and baby is fine and they are home with their family.

When my friend asked, "So what is the difference between giving birth

here in America and giving birth in Africa?" her response was short

but speaks volumes and gives me chills..."in Africa, it is easy"

What a shame,

Holly

My deepest most profound thoughts and burning questions...
Posted On 07/12/2008 03:24:56

These are just a few of my favorite mysteries to ponder when i am needing a good laugh... life is funny!

If nothing ever sticks to Teflon, how do they make Teflon stick to the pan?

Do Chinese people get hungry an hour after they eat American food?

After eating, do amphibians have to wait one hour before getting
out of the water?

Day light savings time - why are they saving it and where do they
keep it?

How can someone "draw a blank"?

If Barbie's so popular, why do you have to buy all her friends?

If man evolved from apes why do we still have apes?

If you can't drink and drive, why do bars have parking lots?

If you choke a Smurf, what color does it turn?

If you're in a vehicle going the speed of light, what happens
when you turn on the headlights?

You know that little indestructible black box that is used on
planes? Why can't they make the whole plane out of the same substance?

Why is the time of day with the slowest traffic called rush hour?

Why is it that when you're driving and looking for an address,
you turn down the volume on the radio?

Why is it that rain drops but snow falls?

Why is it that only adults have difficulty with childproof bottles?

Why is it that doctors call what they do "practice"?

Why is it that bullets ricochet off of Superman's chest, but he
ducks when the gun is thrown at him?

Why is it called tourist season if we can't shoot at them?

Why is a women's prison called a penal colony?

Why is brassiere singular and panties plural?

Why is clear considered a color?

Why is it called a "building" when it is already built?

Why is "abbreviated" such a long word?

Why is a boxing ring square?

Why is a carrot more orange than an orange?

Why does a grapefruit look nothing like a grape?

Why does Donald Duck wear a towel when he comes out of the shower,
when he doesn't usually wear any pants?

Why does Goofy stand erect while Pluto remains on all fours? They're
both dogs!

Why do we sing "Take me out to the ball game," when
we are already there?

Why do we need training bras? What can we teach them?

Why do we drive on parkways and park on driveways?

Why do tourists go to the top of tall buildings and then put money
in telescopes so they can see things on the ground in close-up?

Why do we call something sent by car a shipment and something
sent by ship a cargo?

Why do they put Braille dots on the keypad of the drive-up ATM?

Why do they call it life insurance?

Why do people tell you when they are speechless?

Why do flammable and inflammable mean the same thing?

Why do fat chance and slim chance mean the same thing?

Why can't you make another word using all the letters in "anagram"?

Why aren't there ever any guilty bystanders?

Why are there interstate highways in Hawaii?

Why are some gay people so unhappy?

Why are raisins called raisins if they are only dried grapes?
Why not just call them dried grapes?

Who opened that first 'oyster' and said "My, my, my. Now
doesn't 'this' look yummy!"

Who was the first person to look at a cow and say, "I think
I'll squeeze these dangly things here and drink whatever comes out?"

Who was the first person to see an egg come from a chicken's butt
and think, "I'll bet that would be good to eat?

Whose cruel idea was it for the word 'lisp' to have an 's' in
it?

Why are all blackboards called that when some of them are green?

Why are America's parks administered by the Department of the
Interior?

Where in the nursery rhyme does it say Humpty Dumpty is an egg?

Where is Old Zealand?

Which is the other side of the street?

Where are we going? And what's with this hand basket?

Where did Webster look up the definitions when he wrote the dictionary?

When they first invented the clock, how did they know what time
it was to set it to?

When we say our mind wanders - where does it go?

When dog food is new and improved tasting, who tests it?

What was the best thing before sliced bread?

What kind of fruit is in Juicy Fruit gum?

What is a "free" gift? Aren't all gifts free?

What if you're in hell, and you're mad at someone, where do you
tell them to go?

What happens to an 18 hour bra after 18 hours?

What hair color do they put on the driver's license of a bald
man?

What do sheep count when they can't get to sleep?

What do they call a French kiss in France?

The Scarecrow got a brain, Tin Man got a heart, Lion got courage,
Dorothy got home, what did Toto get?

When you own a piece of property, do you own it all the way down to the core of the earth?

And lastly, why is there russian propaganda on our coca cola products lately.. i mean... im just sayin lol

Beautiful poetic expression about The Birth Experience..From the book...
Posted On 06/23/2008 23:13:50
From the book, "She Births: A Modern Woman's Guidebook for an Ancient Rite of
Passage"

The Passage
By: Marcie Macari

The earth shook. The
women gathered.
The chanting of The Women Of a Thousand Generations began,
their hands intertwined.

I breathe low, moaning deep through my body to
touch the depth of sound they generate. And for a moment I am with them.

"We're here-with you, you are one of us-you can do it!"
One of them...

I breathe.
The coals glow - mocking my strength
Embers flick their
tongues tormenting my courage.
I step onto the coals -
The Women Of a
Thousand Generations push closer to the embers -
their faces glowing from
the coals.
I keep my eyes on them, focusing on THEIR ability to push through
the pain,
to keep walking in spite of their fear -
remembering that they
made it to the other side.

I find MY courage and step again.
I feel
the embers, and wince.
The Women start beating a drum.
I find their
rhythm in my abdomen, and slowly move forward:
One step - look at the face.

Second step - focus on the eyes.
Third step...
I see the dancers,
rehearsing their steps as I walk my last few.
I see the circle being set -
the fire at the center, the food and festivities.
This will be the stage for
my welcoming into this elite group -
this Women Of a Thousand Generations.

My heart swells.
I am close to the end now, and my body starts to shake
- Spirit stronger than flesh.
I want to give up - to step on the cool grass

and off these coals.
I look for the faces, and my eyes meet theirs.

One of them smiles.
She who is With Woman, reaches out her hand.
Her
face is the clearest, eyes at my level.
"Listen to your body and do what it
tells you" She says - no trace of concern.
The chanting changes: "Listen to
your bo-dy"
In rhythm, hands are again joined, like an infinite chain.
I
realize just how many have gone this way before me.
The one who smiled
places her hand on the shoulder
of the One who is With Woman -
with me,

and I breathe, stretching out my hand to grasp the outstretched.
I am
about to cross over -
Silence comes over the Universe.
I near the end -

my body aches,
my mind is empty of everything but that last step.

Last step.
Hands grasped.
Cool grass.
On my toes, cooling my
feet -
my arms reach out to claim my prize -
"Reach down and take your
baby."
I hold her to me tightly, and proudly take my place in the chain.

I am now a Woman Of a Thousand Generations.
The celebration
begins.

Funny update of the snake saga!
Posted On 06/22/2008 21:04:19

Well, thank you all for reading my manic blog about my fun friendly visitor last night! I am more informed now about said offender, and am happy to report that he is not a venomous snake.. they can be very strikingly similar to a coral snake, the Red Scarlet King snake is just a , well, snake.  This best demonstrates the diference...

 Whew!

Now to me, looking down toward my foot, against the contrast of the dark blue outdoor carpet thats ot there, this thing might as well have been Chupacabra BC it scarred the BeJeSuSS Out of me!  And Oshunbaby, I believe you are right because this cat has been glaring at me all day like I just totally killed his joy LOL

Now I am all for womens rights and feminism, but when its time to chase a venomous reptile out if THIS house..... Im like.. YEP, Im 3 steps behind you boo!!

Calming down lol
Posted On 06/22/2008 05:40:41

This is really off topic but such a freakish experience that im still wrapping my brain around ayy!

I go out to my porch tonight (its like a screened in kick back room really) to get my oldest cat Mr. Puddy in for the night, and I step out there and almost STEP ON what looks like a coral snake!!! He had it cornered like right there at the door and the dam thing looked like it was about to bolt into the house!! I almost had a stroke y'all for reall! I shut the door fast and run to the other door that leads out there (a sliding glass door) and I am absolutely *shrieking* at that cat to get his butt in the house, i am so scared this thing is gonna bite him bc hes steady pawing at it and trying to get at it... I am almost in near Hysterics!! See this is the cat that got nailed by a snake back in 03 and almost died, if not for me 24/7 keeping him hydrated and basically syringe feeding him.. so we have been through alot already lol...He just has to leave the dam snakes alone, he is gonna give me a stroke lol    I can deal with snakes, in the wild, I have options, I can go one way, and he can go the other and we can co-exist! But in my house I cannot deal with or fighting my my crazy old psyco cat LOL.... The funny thing is, I KNEW I was gonna encounter a snake withing a day or 2 bc I had that 'feeling'. I inherited that from my dad, when we used 2 go fishing when i was a kid, he would always know, even tho he hadnt seen it, that one was around.. and sure enough it would be! I had just cleaned in my garage today and had that *feeling* I might find one... wierd.

Hubby comes and grabs the cat and throws him (He does NOT want to go inside, he is fighting the whole time bc he wants to go i guess french kiss the venomous snake and give me a coronary some more) inside and he tried to catch the snake but it went up into the siding ayy!  I hope we dont see it again, but I am pretty sure we will be going on a hunt lol OMG I was so freaked... im cool now , blogs are good like that lol
